Bare copper is the simplest wire to value, but it is also the easiest to undervalue, because clean bright conductor in original coils is a product, not scrap.
Bare copper appears as grounding electrode conductors, ground rings, bonding jumpers, overhead bare conductor and busbar stock. Sizes run from 6 AWG through 500 MCM and beyond, solid or stranded, soft-drawn or hard-drawn.
If the copper is bright and coiled, it has resale value as conductor. If it is oxidized, kinked or mixed with other metals, it is priced closer to scrap. Either way, it is worthwhile to have it quoted by someone who prices both.
| Conductor | Soft-drawn or hard-drawn bare copper |
|---|---|
| Size range | 6 AWG through 500 kcmil and larger |
| Typical uses | Grounding, bonding, overhead bare conductor |
| Standards seen | ASTM B3, B8; UL 467 grounding components |
Bright, untarnished copper in a factory coil is worth more than oxidized conductor, and both are worth more than mixed scrap. Keep bare copper separate from insulated wire and from aluminum, because mixing categories always costs money.
Where a lot is mixed, we separate it into usable wire and conductor value, so the credit you receive is transparent rather than a single blended number.
Grounding work on Georgia substations, cell towers, industrial buildings and solar installations generates bare copper surplus. Utility and telecom contractors are the most frequent sellers.
We reply with a range for full reels, partial spools and mixed lots, anywhere in Georgia.
Original coils of documented bare copper can sell above scrap, especially in grounding sizes. Loose, tangled or oxidized copper is generally a scrap sale.
Yes. Tinned copper is purchased separately from bright bare copper because the tin coating changes recovery value.
You can, but it will be priced as mixed material. Separating categories almost always produces a better total offer.
We buy statewide. A few of the markets where this category comes up most:
