Medium voltage cable is the highest-value wire most facilities own, and it is also the category most often sold badly, because few buyers can evaluate it.
Medium voltage cable covers 5kV, 8kV, 15kV, 25kV and 35kV constructions with EPR or XLPE insulation, semiconductor screens, and a metallic shield that may be copper tape, wire, or concentric neutral. Sizes run from 2 AWG through 1000 MCM.
Every one of those variables changes the price. A 15kV 500 MCM copper tape shielded reel has little in common, commercially, with a 5kV 2 AWG aluminum concentric neutral reel, even though both are called medium voltage.
| Voltage classes | 5kV, 8kV, 15kV, 25kV, 35kV |
|---|---|
| Insulation | EPR or XLPE with conductor and insulation screens |
| Shield | Copper tape, wire shield, concentric neutral |
| Size range | 2 AWG through 1000 kcmil |
| Standard | AEIC CS8, ICEA S-93-639, UL 1072 |
The four things that set medium voltage pricing: voltage class, conductor size and material, shield type, and usable length with intact jacket. Send photos that prove all four and you will get a firmer number on the first pass.
The number you get reflects three things: whether the construction is still in use, how much footage remains, and whether the jacket and print are intact. Everything else is secondary.
Georgia's substations, industrial plants, universities and hospitals run medium voltage distribution. Utility re-conductoring, switchgear replacements and plant expansions generate the surplus, often in long lengths that are worth real money.
We reply with a range for full reels, partial spools and mixed lots, anywhere in Georgia.
Utilities, industrial contractors and wire resellers with the ability to test and re-certify cable. We evaluate the construction and condition, then place it with a buyer who can use that specific voltage class and size.
Usually with insulation resistance and, for critical applications, a proof test or partial discharge test. Jacket and shield condition determine whether testing is even worth scheduling.
Yes. Higher voltage classes are purchased when the length and jacket condition support reuse. Short or damaged lengths are valued as conductor.
Yes, and aluminum MV cable is common in utility distribution. It is priced below copper but still carries a substantial premium over scrap.
We buy statewide. A few of the markets where this category comes up most:

Send the details below and include photos of your spools, reels and labels. Photos are what let us identify the construction, estimate footage, and give you a real number instead of a guess.
