Aluminum cable moves in volume, not in ounces. We buy surplus aluminum building wire, service entrance cable and large feeder conductors from Georgia contractors, utilities and plants.
Aluminum wire dominates service and feeder work because it delivers the same ampacity at lower weight and cost. That means most surplus aluminum in Georgia is large: 250 through 1000 MCM XHHW, quadruplex and triplex service drop, SER and SEU service entrance cable, and URD direct burial in residential subdivisions.
Aluminum is more sensitive to handling than copper. Bending a 750 MCM aluminum conductor past its radius can crack the insulation and strand the conductor, and bare aluminum left outdoors develops oxide that has to be accounted for. We inspect cut ends and jacket damage, and we price based on what is actually reusable.
| Conductor | 1350-H19 aluminum, compact or compressed stranded |
|---|---|
| Typical sizes | #6 AWG through 1000 kcmil |
| Typical ratings | 600V building and service cable; 15kV and 25kV shielded |
| Common insulations | XLPE (XHHW-2), polyethylene (URD/USE-2), PVC |
| Standards seen | UL 44, UL 854, AA-8000 series alloy requirements |
Two things protect aluminum value: intact insulation and clean, undamaged cut ends. Reels stored on their side in Georgia heat and humidity are worth less than reels stored upright under cover, because moisture wicks into the conductor and the jacket deforms.
We price against what the material is worth as usable wire, then compare that to conductor value so you can see the difference. If a reel has lost its jacket or its print, we say so and price it accordingly.
Aluminum surplus concentrates in residential subdivision work, utility service upgrades and industrial feeder replacements. Metro Atlanta's builder volume, the Savannah and Brunswick port corridors, and south Georgia's agricultural service work all generate steady aluminum stock.
We reply with a range for full reels, partial spools and mixed lots, anywhere in Georgia.
Yes, and it is a large part of the surplus market. Aluminum service entrance and feeder cable is bought by the reel, by the coil and by the truckload, and the same documentation that helps copper helps aluminum: print, size, condition and footage.
Per pound, yes, by a wide margin. Per project, aluminum often makes up most of the footage removed from a service upgrade, so it still adds up. We quote aluminum on its own terms rather than converting it to a copper number.
Yes. Leftover service drop coils, short SER cuts and partial URD reels are all quotable, though on small quantities we usually bundle them with other material to make freight sensible.
We buy statewide. A few of the markets where this category comes up most:
