SER cable feeds panels and subpanels across the state, and leftover reels from service work are among the most quotable items a contractor can have on hand.
SER is service entrance cable with a reinforced jacket, rated 600 volts, made in two, three and four conductor configurations with an uninsulated ground, in copper or aluminum. Common sizes run from 6 AWG through 4/0 and larger for heavy commercial service.
Most SER surplus comes from residential and light commercial service upgrades, where a 250 foot reel is purchased for a 90 foot run. Because SER is jacket-printed and reel-tagged, valuation is usually quick.
| Construction | Insulated conductors with bare ground, overall reinforced jacket |
|---|---|
| Voltage rating | 600V |
| Size range | 6 AWG through 4/0 and larger |
| Conductors | 2, 3 and 4 conductor with ground |
| Standard | UL 854; NEC Article 338 |
Aluminum SER moves in volume and prices close to metal value plus a modest premium. Copper SER in four conductor configurations is the higher-value item, especially when sealed.
We price against what the material is worth as usable wire, then compare that to conductor value so you can see the difference. If a reel has lost its jacket or its print, we say so and price it accordingly.
Subdivision work around Atlanta, Savannah, Gainesville and Columbus generates most SER surplus. Electricians who upgrade services weekly often accumulate a stack of partial reels before they call anyone.
We reply with a range for full reels, partial spools and mixed lots, anywhere in Georgia.
Yes, but stripped cable is usually priced as conductor. Intact jacket keeps the cable usable and worth more.
Yes. It is lower value per pound than copper but it comes in larger volumes, and partial reels are common enough that buyers exist for most standard configurations.
2-2-2-4 and 4-4-4-6 aluminum for residential services, and 3/0 or 4/0 configurations for commercial panels.
