XHHW-2 combines XLPE insulation with a wet-location rating, which is why it is specified for underground conduit, exterior feeders and industrial distribution.
XHHW-2 is a 90 degree C, 600 volt (or 2kV) conductor rated for wet locations, built on cross-linked polyethylene insulation. It is the industrial counterpart to THWN-2 and is often specified where conductors will be exposed to moisture, soil or washdown.
Because both wet ratings are equally usable, the choice between THWN-2 and XHHW-2 usually comes down to specification and price rather than performance. For surplus sellers, that means either construction sells, and the deciding factors are size, footage, print clarity and reel condition.
| Construction | Copper or aluminum conductor, XLPE insulation |
|---|---|
| Voltage rating | 600V and 2kV |
| Temperature | 90 degrees C dry, damp and wet |
| Size range | 14 AWG through 1000 kcmil |
| Standard | UL 44; NEC 310.16 at 90 degrees C |
Sealed XHHW-2 in large sizes is among the strongest surplus items in Georgia because it fits underground utility work, industrial feeders and data center conduit in one product.
We price against what the material is worth as usable wire, then compare that to conductor value so you can see the difference. If a reel has lost its jacket or its print, we say so and price it accordingly.
Underground conduit work at plants, substations and data centers drives XHHW-2 demand. Surplus tends to appear when a project over-orders, when a design changes from copper to aluminum, or when a distributor clears a discontinued size.
We reply with a range for full reels, partial spools and mixed lots, anywhere in Georgia.
In conduit, yes, because it carries a wet-location rating. Direct burial requires a cable listed for the purpose, such as USE-2 or URD, so XHHW-2 alone is not a substitute for direct burial cable.
Yes. 2kV constructions are purchased regularly from industrial plants and are often the highest-value single-reel item in a plant stockroom.
From the reel tag when it is legible, otherwise from the wrap diameter and the manufacturer's published feet-per-inch data. A straight-on photo of the spool face is usually enough for us to estimate.
We buy statewide. A few of the markets where this category comes up most:

Send the details below and include photos of your spools, reels and labels. Photos are what let us identify the construction, estimate footage, and give you a real number instead of a guess.
