THWN-2 is the current standard for conduit work in wet and damp locations, and nearly every dual-rated reel of building wire sold in Georgia today carries that print.
THWN-2 is rated 90 degrees C in wet locations at 600 volts, which makes it the conductor of choice for exterior feeders, underground conduit, cooling tower circuits and any run that can see moisture. Because it is almost always printed THHN/THWN-2, buyers get three ratings on one reel.
For surplus purposes, THWN-2 is the most liquid building wire in the state. If the print is clean and the reel is intact, we can usually place it quickly with a contractor who needs the same construction. That speed is worth more than a scrap quote.
| Construction | Copper conductor, heat and moisture resistant PVC, nylon jacket |
|---|---|
| Voltage rating | 600V |
| Temperature | 90 degrees C dry and wet |
| Size range | 14 AWG through 1000 kcmil |
| Standard | UL 83; NEC 310.16 ampacity at 90 degrees C |
THWN-2 lets an engineer use the 90 degree C ampacity column, which is why it is specified on dense industrial feeders. That same property makes sealed large-size reels the most valuable building wire you can have sitting in a warehouse.
We price against what the material is worth as usable wire, then compare that to conductor value so you can see the difference. If a reel has lost its jacket or its print, we say so and price it accordingly.
Industrial plants, water treatment facilities and data center electrical rooms specify THWN-2 for wet-rated conduit runs. When those projects finish, leftover large-size reels are the most common high-value item we buy in metro Atlanta and along the coast.
We reply with a range for full reels, partial spools and mixed lots, anywhere in Georgia.
They are usually the same product with three ratings printed on one jacket: THHN for dry locations at 90 degrees C, THWN for wet at 75 degrees C, and THWN-2 for wet at 90 degrees C. If the jacket says THHN/THWN-2, it is all three.
It changes how many buyers can use it, which changes the price. Sealed large-size THWN-2 generally brings the strongest offers because industrial and data center work specifies it.
Yes. Single-marked THWN-2 is still a listed construction and is purchased, though dual-rated print is more broadly usable.
We buy statewide. A few of the markets where this category comes up most:
