Shielded power cable is medium and high voltage work: expensive, specialized, and worth a real quote rather than a scrap estimate.
Shielded power cable carries a semiconductive conductor shield, insulation, insulation shield and metallic shield (tape, wire or concentric neutral) under an outer jacket. Ratings run from 5kV through 35kV and beyond, with EPR or XLPE insulation and 100 percent or 133 percent insulation levels.
Shield integrity decides value. A reel with a cut or corroded concentric neutral cannot be terminated reliably and may be rejected by an engineer, so we photograph and inspect shields carefully before quoting.
| Construction | Conductor shield, insulation, insulation shield, metallic shield, jacket |
|---|---|
| Voltage ratings | 5kV, 8kV, 15kV, 25kV, 35kV and 69kV |
| Insulation | EPR or XLPE, 100% and 133% levels |
| Size range | 2 AWG through 1000 kcmil |
| Standard | AEIC CS8, ICEA S-93-639, UL 1072 |
Ask three questions about any shielded reel: what is the voltage class, what is the shield type, and is the jacket intact end to end. Those three answers set most of the price.
The number you get reflects three things: whether the construction is still in use, how much footage remains, and whether the jacket and print are intact. Everything else is secondary.
Utility substations, industrial distribution feeders and large campus distribution systems across Georgia use shielded cable. Surplus appears after substation upgrades, plant expansions and utility re-conductoring projects.
We reply with a range for full reels, partial spools and mixed lots, anywhere in Georgia.
Tape shield uses a copper tape for electrostatic shielding; wire shield uses helically applied wires that also serve as the neutral. Wire shielded and concentric neutral cable is typical for utility distribution.
Yes, when the remaining length supports a termination. Short lengths with damaged jackets are priced as conductor.
Higher voltage classes require thicker insulation and more shielding, which is why a 35kV reel is worth far more per foot than a 5kV reel of the same conductor size.
