Variable frequency drive cable is a specialty product with a small buyer pool and a high unit value. If you have surplus VFD cable, it is worth pricing as cable, not scrap.
VFD cable is built to carry pulse-width-modulated power from a drive to a motor without radiating noise. That means three power conductors, a symmetrical ground system, and either a foil or braided shield, rated 1kV or 2kV with XLPE insulation and a rugged jacket.
Sizes range from 14 AWG to 500 MCM and beyond, and the cable is expensive new, which makes surplus reels valuable. Because fewer contractors keep it in stock, a well-labeled partial reel can be easier to place than a comparable reel of THHN.

| Standard | UL 1277 tray cable ratings; drive manufacturer specifications |
Shield integrity is the single most important factor. A reel with crushed or cut shield cannot be used on a drive circuit, and the price drops accordingly. Reels stored upright and dry keep their shield and jacket intact.
We price against what the material is worth as usable wire, then compare that to conductor value so you can see the difference. If a reel has lost its jacket or its print, we say so and price it accordingly.
Food processing, water treatment, HVAC retrofits and paper mills across Georgia install drives constantly. Surplus appears when a project changes motor specifications or when a plant standardizes on a different drive cable.
We reply with a range for full reels, partial spools and mixed lots, anywhere in Georgia.
Yes. VFD cable has a symmetrical ground and a shield designed to contain high-frequency noise from drive output. Ordinary power cable can carry the current but not the noise requirement.
Yes. Because the cable is expensive and rarely stocked, even a 100 foot partial can be worth quoting if the shield and jacket are intact.
A damaged end can sometimes be cut back. Photograph the damage and we will quote based on the remaining usable length.
