Armored cable protects conductors mechanically, and that armor is also what makes it worth more than loose conductor when it is intact.
Armored cable includes MC, AC, interlocked armor power cable and armored control cable. The armor may be aluminum or steel, interlocked or smooth, and the conductors inside range from 14 AWG branch circuits to 1000 MCM feeders.
Armor condition is the determining factor. Intact armor means the cable can be installed and it sells as cable. Crushed, kinked or corroded armor means the conductors are suspect, and the price drops to conductor value.
| Armor | Interlocked aluminum or galvanized steel |
|---|---|
| Voltage | 600V, 1kV, 5kV and 15kV armored constructions |
| Size range | 14 AWG through 1000 kcmil |
| Standard | UL 1569, UL 4, UL 1072 |
| Applications | Branch circuits, feeders, hazardous location, tray |
Photograph the crush points, not just the good side. A buyer who discovers damaged armor after pickup will discount the whole lot, and that is worse than quoting it accurately up front.
We price against what the material is worth as usable wire, then compare that to conductor value so you can see the difference. If a reel has lost its jacket or its print, we say so and price it accordingly.
Healthcare, school and high-rise construction in Atlanta uses MC by the mile. Industrial plants use interlocked armor for feeders in tray. Both leave partial coils behind at project closeout.
We reply with a range for full reels, partial spools and mixed lots, anywhere in Georgia.
When the armor is intact and the configuration is current, yes. The assembly carries installation value that bare conductor does not.
Yes, priced as conductor. Cut armor generally disqualifies the cable for installation.
It can be quoted, but the price reflects the loss of installable length.
