Instrumentation cable is a high-value, low-volume product, and the buyers who need a specific pair count are willing to pay for the right reel.
Instrumentation cable carries analog and digital signals between field transmitters and control systems. It is built as individual shielded pairs or triads, often with an overall shield, in 24, 20, 18 or 16 AWG, rated 300 volts (PLTC) or 600 volts for heavier constructions.
Because it is thin and light, sellers often assume it has little value. In practice, a 500 foot reel of 18 AWG shielded pairs can be worth many times its weight in copper when the pair count matches a current project.
| Construction | Shielded pairs or triads with overall jacket |
|---|---|
| Voltage rating | 300V and 600V |
| Temperature | 105 degrees C typical |
| Size range | 24 AWG through 16 AWG |
| Standard | UL 13 PLTC, UL 2250 instrumentation tray cable |
Pair count and shield type are the price drivers. A 12-pair reel is not interchangeable with a 4-pair reel, and an individually shielded reel is worth more than a foil-only construction. Photograph the print and the cut end clearly.
The number you get reflects three things: whether the construction is still in use, how much footage remains, and whether the jacket and print are intact. Everything else is secondary.
Georgia's chemical plants around Augusta, paper mills near Savannah and Jesup, and pharmaceutical operations in the Atlanta area run thousands of feet of instrumentation cable. Control system upgrades are the main source of surplus.
We reply with a range for full reels, partial spools and mixed lots, anywhere in Georgia.
No. It is sold by configuration and footage. Weight-based pricing undervalues small-gauge signal cable significantly.
Yes, when the calibration type is marked. Type J, K and T extension cable is purchased separately from general instrumentation cable.
Yes. We can work from the jacket print and a photo of the cut end, though an untagged reel is priced more conservatively.
We buy statewide. A few of the markets where this category comes up most:
