Power-limited tray cable is the backbone of plant instrumentation, and it is one of the most consistently undervalued items in a surplus stockroom.
PLTC is a 300 volt, 105 degree C power-limited tray cable used for instrumentation, control and communication circuits. It is typically 18, 16 or 14 AWG, in pairs, triads or multiconductor constructions, with foil or braided shielding and a sunlight-resistant jacket.
The cable is small but specialized: a 1,000 foot reel of 16 AWG shielded pairs can cost more than its weight suggests, and it has a narrow buyer pool that will pay for the right configuration. Documentation is everything here.
| Construction | Multiconductor or multipair with overall shield and jacket |
|---|---|
| Voltage rating | 300V |
| Temperature | 105 degrees C |
| Size range | 18 AWG through 12 AWG |
| Standard | UL 13; NEC Article 725 Class 2 and 3 circuits |
PLTC value is configuration-driven. The same footage can be worth very different amounts depending on pair count, shield type and AWG. Photograph the print and the cut end, and list the pair count exactly.
The number you get reflects three things: whether the construction is still in use, how much footage remains, and whether the jacket and print are intact. Everything else is secondary.
Chemical, pharmaceutical, pulp and paper plants across Georgia run thousands of feet of PLTC for transmitters and control loops. Instrument upgrades and DCS replacements create surplus reels.
We reply with a range for full reels, partial spools and mixed lots, anywhere in Georgia.
PLTC is a 300 volt power-limited cable for Class 2 and 3 circuits, typically instrumentation. TC is a 600V or 1kV power and control cable listed for tray use. They serve different circuits and are priced separately.
Yes. Partial instrumentation reels are common and often worth quoting individually when the pair count is still in demand.
Usually yes, because shielded constructions cost more new and are specified for noise-sensitive analog signals.
