Where surplus wire comes from around Vidette

Most of the wire we buy in Vidette is not abandoned scrap. It is material somebody bought for a specific job, a specific machine or a specific code requirement, and the job changed before the wire was used.

Burke County's Waynesboro area includes Plant Vogtle, the largest nuclear generating station in the country, along with paper and agricultural operations. Utility and generation work produces medium and high voltage cable, grounding conductor and distribution material with test documentation attached.

What we need to quote your Vidette wire

You do not need an inventory list. The five things below are enough for us to give you a range, and the first two are what actually drive the number.

• Wire type and construction — THHN, XHHW-2, MC, tray cable, medium voltage, or whatever is printed on the jacket
• Size and footage — gauge or MCM, and either the reel tag footage or an estimate from the wrap
• Condition — sealed, opened, stored indoors, stored outdoors, damaged jacket, water exposure
• Photos — jacket print, reel tag, spool face, cut ends and a wide shot of the whole lot
• Location and loading — where in Vidette it sits, and whether there is a dock, forklift or ramp

Selling surplus wire in Vidette: what to expect

Pickup in Vidette is arranged around how the material is staged. A loading dock and a forklift make it simple; a storage building behind a shop takes a little more planning, and we will say so before we schedule.

If your wire has been outdoors for a while, say so up front. It does not disqualify the material, but it does change how we estimate usable length, and an honest description gets you a number that holds up at pickup.
